Double Feature Includes Student-Led Production, Musical Performances
LAKE PLACID, NY – North Country School (NCS) students will present two plays and a musical recital on Saturday, February 15 in the Don Rand Theater of the Walter Breeman Performing Arts Center (WallyPAC) on its Lake Placid campus. The first play, Stuart Little, will begin at 5 pm and is appropriate for all ages. Following Stuart, a musical recital will take place featuring the talents of NCS’s Rock Band, solo student performances, and more. The evening will conclude at 7 pm with IMPACT, an entirely student-led performance and production.
IMPACT, an annual theater program developed by and for NCS’s older students, deals with more mature themes, including many coming-of-age issues our students, their families, and friends might be facing. This year’s play hits on experiences with xenophobia, financial instability, discrimination, and heartbreak. Due to the subject matter of the play, this performance is suitable for attendees ages 12+.
Stuart Little, which follows the tale of a small person navigating a big world, will be performed by students in grades four through six at 5 pm on February 15. Admission for all performances is free and open to the public.
“The students have been working so hard on their productions, and I’m excited for our audiences to see each special play and musical performance,” said Courtney Allen, NCS’s theater teacher. “IMPACT is an especially moving experience each year and this year our students have brought an amazing range of experiences to draw from.”
NCS’s Walter Breeman Performing Arts Center (WallyPAC) provides students with a world-class theatrical facility to practice their craft, be it working on stage crew in the lighting and sound booth or taking their mark on stage. Theater and musical performances are routinely open to the public. For more information about these or other upcoming performances, visit northcountryschool.org/ncs-happenings.
