First off, I’d like to apologize to the doodler who so simply but effectively captured the essence of the Old Firehouse in Essex, NY. You are a gifted doodler! And yet, I’m not 100% certain if your autograph is Garth of Matt. I’d love to update this post with correct credit, so please contact us with any leads. Perhaps you’d like to doodle your suggestion? 😉
It’s a rare gift to combine economy with beauty. And it’s an even rarer accomplishment when so few pen strokes can render an instantly familiar, handsome Essex landmark. I suspect that anyone glancing at this doodle can recognize the Old Firehouse in Essex, present home of the Adirondack Art Association.
This Essex icon (and the sunburst which adorns it’s facade) have become emblematic of the village over the years. Like the Essex ferry, the Essex Ice Cream Cafe, and Champy (aka Lake Champlain monster) certain symbols pop up again and again in the doodles we receive. I wonder if there are other familiar Essex images that instantly transport the viewer to Essex…
