The Mill will host a public reception on March 19th from 5-7pm to celebrate the reveal of a newly commissioned wall work. The forty-foot sculpture will span the entry passage to The Mill’s speakeasy, The Knock.
Gold Linear Beam is a site-specific sculptural installation comprised of 10 modules coated in reflective gold laser-cut acrylic. The smooth mirror-like finish is interrupted with geometric faceted insets, refracting light and objects nearby. Located in proximity to Hendee’s 2024 illuminated light sculpture, Buisine, visitors are invited to delve deeper into the artist’s world.
Stephen Hendee (b. 1968, California, USA) is an innovative sculptor renowned for creating large-scale installations that challenge traditional notions of space and form. Drawing inspiration from the world of digital culture, he is widely regarded as a pioneer of the low-poly aesthetic. Through his work, he translates the vectorized properties of digital design into physical materials, creating real-world simulations of virtual reality spaces.
Hendee’s work challenges viewers to consider the relationship between virtual and physical spaces, and how they intersect with our perceptions of reality. His installations are visually stunning and conceptually complex, inviting audiences to explore and engage with the dynamic worlds he creates.
A reveal of the artwork and reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, March 19th from 5-7pm. Please RSVP at themilladk.com.
