70 teen writers from around the Adirondacks will see their creative work published in the second Wild Words Adirondack Teen Writing Anthology this spring.
The book will launch on Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at Harrietstown Town Hall (39 Main St, Saranac Lake, NY). The event is free and open to the public, and will feature readings by some of the 2024 contributors. Copies of the 2023 and 2024 anthologies will be available for sale for a donation of $5 each.
Writing for the anthology came from over 45 different towns in and around the North Country. The 70 selected contributors range from 13-19 years old, and have written a variety of different genres, including poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction.
Featured readers will include Evan Beech (Westport), Luke Dalton (Chateaugay), Erica Klein (Willsboro), Loralei Rivera (Plattsburgh), Zadalyne Snyder (Malone), Lucy Thill (Lake Clear), Bingo Valentin (Saranac Lake), Jeshua Wilkinson (Saranac), Dave Bresett (Saranac Lake), Nat Todd (Canton), Robert Hill (Brant Lake), Madeleine Savage (Au Sable Forks) and Bali Thurston (Saranac Lake), among others.
The Wild Words Adirondack Teen Writing Anthology is a collaboration between visiting writer Erin Dorney and the Adirondack Center for Writing as part of the Creatives Rebuild New York (CRNY) Artist Employment Program. CRNY, a project of the Tides Center, is a three-year, $125 million investment in the financial stability of New York State artists and the organizations that employ them.
“It was fun editing this collection for the second year in a row,” said Dorney. “We received more submissions than last year so the competition was fierce. I’m grateful to all of the teens who sent us their writing, and encourage you to keep going. Your words are important!”
The Adirondack Center for Writing has been bringing people and words together for 25 years through provocative events and meaningful programs. For more information about ACW, visit adirondackcenterforwriting.org or follow @adkctr4writing on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
