The Whallonsburg Grange Hall will present “Six Blogs” with author and blogger George Davis on Tuesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. This will be the final lecture in the Winter Lyceum series entitled “More History of Everything in Six Objects.”
Where is the hyperlocal media market headed? Explore six demographically distinct examples of geographically targeted, multi-author community blogs in search of lessons, best practices and indicative bellwethers. From Patch’s rise-and-demise to success stories like 30A.com and Baristanet, this presentation will touch on origins, evolution, mission, and sustainability of hyperlocal media and will consider the future of this micro-niche trend.
An enthusiastic collector, curator, and conveyor of Essex on Lake Champlain esoterica, George is a poet errant who blogs, a storyteller who doodles, a global nomad turned helicopter homeowner, a former teacher and coach at Santa Fe Preparatory School and The American School of Paris, and a marginalia junkie. He aims to sail around the world one day but until then, he lives with his bride and dog in New York’s Adirondacks, New Mexico’s high desert, and online at @virtualdavis and virtualdavis.com.
Admission is $5.00 and students are free. The Whallonsburg Grange is located at 1610 NYS Route 22, five miles south of the village of Essex.
