First 2019 Grand Hike registration received!
The Grand Hike is Saturday, May 11—and we just received the first registrationooray! Join with many more and hike 14 miles from Westport to Essex and the Block Party at the Essex Inn.
We’re finalizing details on the route for this year, with the goal of getting the last stretch going into Essex moved off of Route 22. We’re thankful that landowners in the area are making their land open for the day.
We’ll keep you posted here as more details develop. In the meantime, plan to park in Essex, take shuttle buses to the beginning of Viall’s Crossing Trail in Westport, hike to Essex, have fun at the block party, and then drive home (or walk for those who live in Essex).
You can register here. Registration before May 6 is $25, after that, $30. Under 17 are free.
The Block Party at the Essex Inn is free and open to anyone. Can’t make the hike? Come to the Block Party. Dinner is available for $15 per person; CATS is taking dinner reservations but you’ll pay for your dinner at the door. Please note that you make your dinner reservation in the comments section on the registration form so the Essex Inn will know how much food to prepare.
Blueberry Hill Adventure had great views
We had 17 people join us for the Blueberry Hill Adventure last Saturday on what started out as a dreary day but turned spectacular by the time we headed out. It was a snowshoe through an amazing network of trails that comprise the Blueberry Hill Trail System in Elizabethtown.
After the Adventure, some of the hikers met up at the Deer’s Head Inn in Elizabethtown for dinner and good conversation.
We’re already looking forward to the next time—join us, won’t you?
A summer job at CATS
We’re still accepting applications for the Summer Trail Steward position.
This is a terrific opportunity for a paid summer position to help maintain and create hiking/skiing trails. It’s a full time, 2-4 month position, reporting to the Stewardship Director. Please help spread the word; it’s a great job for the right person!
