Metamusic, is a Plattsburgh-based new music consortium with a core area trio of Marilyn Reynolds, violin, Dan Gordon, saxophone, and Rose Chancler, piano. Metamusic plays an eclectic breed of classical music that explores the singing and coloristic possibilities of their instruments, and their sounds are lyrical, dance-like, at times jazz-infused, at times experimental, always exciting.
Metamusic started with three colleagues wanting to play through a lovingly accumulated stack of pieces for their unusual combination of instruments: saxophone, violin, and piano. During that rehearsal, they found some wonderful roses among those thorns, and the group decided to continue playing concerts together. Metamusic has since greatly enjoyed learning and sharing with audiences in and around the North Country, and after performing a number of concerts, they recognized two essential things: there was a strong camaraderie among them, and the repertory for their instrumental combination continued to be quite limited. By seeking new works to premier and expanding the group with different guest performers for each program, the musical possibilities are almost endless.
These concerts will include several premieres and also guest appearances by Robin Cameron-Phillips, flute, Sandra Pearson, bassoon, and Volkan Orhon on double bass performing works by J.S. Bach, John David Lamb, Dino Constantinides, P. Kellach Waddle, and Jorgen Bentzon.
Piano by Nature will present these two shows at the Historic Hand House in Elizabethtown, NY on Saturday, February 6th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, February 7th at 3:00 PM, 2016. Tickets are $15 per adult, with $5 tickets for all students 15-and-under. Family rates may be requested for larger groups.
