This Saturday would have been the Grand Hike—it’ll be strange not to be holding it on Mother’s Day weekend, but we’re going to stay focused on the fact that it’s postponed and NOT canceled. The new date is Labor Day weekend, Saturday, September 5.
So, to remind us what fun we have to look forward to, here are some photos from past Grand Hikes—thanks, Jen Zahorchak!
Welcome back, Logan!

We’re happy to announce that Logan Van Buren is back as a summer intern to maintain and make trails, which includes the essential service of mowing where long grass can allow ticks to flourish. Logan and Bill’s work on our trails help keep hikers safe and we are grateful for their efforts.
Logan is a senior at Moriah Central High School—which has been an interesting “senior experience” for sure. It has allowed him to get an early start on his CATS internship, which was paid for by a dedicated CATS supporter.
And speaking of mowing….
Are you tired of mowing your lawn? How about mowing a CATS trail? You can enjoy the adventure of mowing “wild” grasses and other plants on hills, dales, and winding paths.
We’re looking for volunteers to help CATS with the trail mowing in the next weeks, probably beginning in the third week of May.
We supply the mower if you supply the muscle (though with our electric mowers, it’s not as much muscle as it used to be—plus, there’s no gas to lug around). You’ll be amazed at what these mowers can do. So, here’s an opportunity to get outside, have fun doing some work and help CATS in a big way!
To be a “CATS Mower” please let us know by sending an email to info@champlainareatrails.com or leave a message on the office line at (518) 962-2287.
Thanks!
