The Mill is pleased to announce “A World of Piano”, a solo piano series curated by GRAMMY®-winning composer and pianist Geoffrey Keezer. Named after Keezer’s favorite album by the great jazz pianist Phineas Newborn, Jr., “A World of Piano” will showcase an extraordinary lineup of emerging voices, marquee performers, and forward-thinking artists who embody the present and future of improvised piano music.
Aligned with The Mill’s mission to bring experimental and improvisational art forms to The Adirondacks, Creative Director Taylor Haskins, was enthusiastic about Keezer’s proposal to curate a solo piano series for the 2026 season. Haskins is a longtime NCPR host of “The Thread”, where each week he weaves through the show, connecting each song to the next with a musician in common. Haskins says, “With Keezer as the anchor to an eclectic program tied together by the instrument, he was essentially offering us The Thread in live form.” A World of Piano will inspire audiences to think more broadly about the voice behind the keys. Guests are encouraged to experience the entire world of piano by attending all performances in the series.
The series begins on Saturday, June 6th with pianist-composer SYLVIE COURVOISIER. A Brooklyn-based native of Switzerland and winner of the Swiss Grand Prix and The American Academy of Arts and Letters Music Award in 2025, Courvoisier’s visual performances of dynamic compositions explore the range of the piano as a whole instrument inside and out. GEOFFREY KEEZER will perform on Saturday, June 20th, followed by CHRISTIAN SANDS on Saturday July 18th. Sands, a Steinway Artist and five time Grammy-nominated pianist brings a cinematic quality to his performances and an extraordinary touch. The series will continue on Saturday, August 1st with JEAN-MICHEL PILC a Montreal based pianist praised for his improvisations, combines comfortable, traditional harmonies with periodic flurries of inspiration that keep you listening. Closing out the series will be South Korean born DABIN RYU on Saturday, August 15th, a rising global star in the jazz world whose nuanced playing reveals her singular voice and CHARU SURI on Saturday, August 29th, a pianist who treads fearlessly between genres, fusing Indian ragas of her childhood with more traditional jazz in her innovative, yet approachable work.
“A World of Piano” is curated by Geoffrey Keezer, a native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, who began playing piano and composing at an early age. After briefly attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Keezer moved to New York in 1989, becoming the last pianist to tour with the legendary Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Keezer has since toured and recorded with a ‘who’s-who’ of jazz musicians including Ray Brown, Roy Hargrove, Joshua Redman, Diana Krall, Art Farmer, Benny Golson, Barbara Hendricks, Wayne Shorter, Dianne Reeves, David Sanborn, Chris Botti, Sting, Joe Locke and Christian McBride. Keezer is a faculty member of The Juilliard School and is a Yamaha artist.
A World of Piano begins June 6th at 8:00 pm and continues through August at The Mill, 6679 Main Street, Westport, NY. Seating is very limited, tickets must be purchased in advance by visiting https://themilladk.com/music.
