Graduating High School Seniors with Essex and Willsboro Residences Invited to Apply
The Essex Community Fund, a component fund of Adirondack Foundation, is pleased to announce that the Lawson and Clint Allen Scholarship and Educational Program is accepting applications from graduating students from Essex and Willsboro enrolled in a public, private or home school and planning pursue to post-secondary education at a four- or two-year college or trade certification.
The Allen Scholarship awards one new $5,000 scholarship each year with the possibility of annual renewals at the same level for recipients making steady progress toward a degree or professional certification. In 2018, Warren Jackson of Essex received a $5,000 scholarship to attend SUNY Albany, and Darian Sweat of Willsboro attending Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire, renewed her scholarship for a second year.
Lawson and Clint Allen established and endowed the scholarship in 2012 because of the deep passion and commitment for higher education and love of their century-old family seasonal residence in Essex. They expect the “Allen scholars” to “pay it forward” through a lifetime of contributions to their communities, the state, and the nation.
“Education is where our hearts are and the focus of our philanthropy,” Lawson Allen explained. “We are pleased to provide financial assistance for the young men and women to reach for the stars. They truly inspire us.”
Applications are due May 31, 2019. Students may request an application from the guidance counselor at Willsboro Central School or by writing to the Essex Community Fund, P.O. Box 101, Essex, NY 12936. For more information, contact Nick Muller at 518-963-8188.
