“One of Scotland’s finest songwriters is coming to the Grange for one show only [in a rare US appearance.]
An avid horseman, master guitarist, singer and songwriter, Archie Fisher is Scotland’s foremost troubadour. He is known throughout that country as the former host of BBC Radio Scotland’s award-winning “Travelling Folk” show, which he presented for more than 25 years. His career stretches from the folk boom of the 1960s to concert stages and festivals in Canada, the UK and the US.
According to Scott Alarik of the Boston Globe, Fisher “has a remarkable gift for writing songs that seem to come from deep within the lives of others, whether it’s a “Bonny Border Lass,’’ a tough Ontario rancher, or a ruined Scottish fisherman. His best songs feel so timeless and authentic that many assume they are traditional.” Fisher’s songs have been recorded by Fairport Convention, the Clancy Brothers, Sheena Wellington, Eva Cassidy, Stan Rogers, and John Renbourn.” [Music and Dances at the Grange – Whallonsburg Grange Hall.]
