An artist from China visiting the Adirondacks raises thousands of dollars to help CFES send students in need to college. (Borderless North)
A visiting artist from Shanghai, China, Yin Zhong came to the Adirondacks this summer and was blown away by the abundance of nature and the spirit of conservancy here. The Adirondacks not only inspired him to paint new works, but his visit to Essex, NY, inspired the spirit of generosity in him to donate several of his ink works to College for Every Student (CFES) for a benefit art auction.
CFES is a non-profit organization that helps students learn to succeed in high school and prepares them for college. Board members Yun and Daniel Arbour came up with the benefit idea and sponsored An Evening of Art and Fun – an auction held at the new CFES Center featuring artist Yin Zhong on August 10.

More than 40 people in and around the community attended the auction in support of CFES, raising more than $27,000. The money will be used to support underfunded local programs in the Adirondack region of upstate NY, as well as the CFES global initiative.
About the Artist
Born in 1952, Chinese artist Yin Zhong has been painting since 1970. During the Cultural Revolution, a time in China’s history when opportunities for artistic expression were limited, Yin Zhong served in the Chinese Liberation Army as a propaganda poster artist. After leaving the army in 1978 he refocused his work and began creating contemporary ink paintings. Yin Zhong’s ink paintings have been shown in galleries around the world, including Shanghai, Belgium, Canada, Italy and Australia. (CFES)
