Champlain Area Trails (CATS) will offer an opportunity to learn from a master photographer when it hosts acclaimed ADK photographer Manuel Palacios (“Manny”) in an outdoor photography workshop, Saturday, October 20, 2018, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
The workshop will open with an introductory session at the CATS office at 6482 Main Street in Westport and then walk to the Lee Park Trail which features Hoisington Brook, little waterfalls, big trees, and Lake Champlain.
“We are so pleased to have Manny back now, with the beautiful fall colors,” said Chris Maron, CATS executive director. “Taking good photos in autumn seems easy, but to truly capture the hues, brightness, and varied shades of the leaves can be a real challenge. Manny provides some great ways to do more than just point-and-shoot.”
“I will instruct, on-site, how to properly expose for landscapes and to take advantage of the light we have, as well as learning some general guidelines in composition,” said Palacios of this workshop.
CATS hosted Manny for a workshop last year that was well received, with one participant saying, “I learned a new things about my new camera and got some fabulous photographs. Thanks for arranging and sponsoring a great workshop.”
For the workshop, participants will need a basic understanding of how to operate their camera. DSLR or mirror-less cameras are recommended; “point and shoot” camera shooters are welcome, but they will be limited on what they can achieve. Both a tripod and a shutter release remote are encouraged but not required.
Manny is a dad, scientist and widely-recognized outdoor photographer living in upstate New York and spends most of his time wandering around in the Adirondacks in both day and night to take photographs. His work may be viewed on his website zone3photo.com.
Thanks to grants from the Fortune Foundation and Cloudsplitter Foundation, the workshop cost is reduced to $20 per person. Class size is limited and registration is required by calling the CATS office at (518) 962-2287 or online at champlainarearails.com/our-events/.
