Champlain Area Trails will be hosting a “Welcome to Winter Hike” at the new Hidden Quarry Trail on Saturday, December 15 at 1:00 p.m.
Hidden Quarry Trail (0.8 mi loop, easy) is a trailhead located on east side of Rt 22 about 4.5 miles south of downtown Westport and 5.5 miles north of Port Henry.
In a brief program before the hike, CATS will announce the winners of its recent travel-writing contest. The Grand Prize winner will receive $500, and the people’s choice winner that the readers chose will receive $250.
Voting is over, but if you haven’t had a chance to enjoy the submissions in this round of the Champlain Area Trails Writing Contest you can find the selection of entries here.
The winner of the CATS raffle of Bill Amadon’s painting of the view from the Bobcat Trail will also be announced.
After that, the hike will begin; this will be a nice introduction to the newest trail in the community. We want you to know that CATS trails are for year round use: they are excellent for both skiing and showshoeing. (Champlain Area Trails)

Hikers should meet at the former Mormon Church parking lot, located 4.6 miles south of the downtown Westport and 4.8 miles north of the downtown Port Henry on the east side of NYS Route 22/9N. The event begins at 1:00 pm.
