Champlain Area Trails (CATS) and SUNY Plattsburgh’s College Auxiliary Services (CAS) are hosting a Winter Day Celebration on March 2nd, 2024, at SUNY’s Twin Valleys Outdoor Education Center to encourage people to get outside, have fun, and connect with nature during the colder months. Twin Valleys straddles the Essex-Lewis town lines just north of County Rt. 10 (the Lewis-Wadham Road).
CATS, an accredited land trust that promotes outdoor recreation in the Champlain Valley of New York, maintains over 80 miles of trails, protects nearly 1,000 acres of land, and partners with CATS to manage the 12 miles of trails at Twin Valley’s Outdoor Education Center for community members to enjoy.
The event is free and open from noon to 4 pm. Attendees can enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, or warming up by a fire with hot cocoa and s’mores. Snow activities are subject to weather conditions.
Chris Maron, Executive Director of CATS, said, “We want people to experience the beauty of nature throughout the year. Our Winter Day Celebration invites people of all ages to visit and recreate at Twin Valleys, now open to the public, and socialize around a fire.”
CATS is arranging guided hikes as part of the Winter Day Celebration. The event is open to everyone. It’s helpful, but you are not required to register at www.champlainareatrails.com. Twin Valleys is located at the end of Twin Valleys Road in Westport, accessed via Alden Road just north of Country Rte. 10.
