Today we’re showcasing this collection of schoolhouse inspired doodles by Linda Dolly who atteded our live performance at The Depot Theatre on July 23, 2013. This detailed illustration was created by LInda in response to the question, “What comes to mind when you think of Essex, NY?”
Essex has an abundance of historic schoolhouses and old schools, including the Old Brick Schoolhouse; the Harmon Noble Schoolhouse; Union School; the former Ross schoolhouse that was converted into the St. John’s Episcopal Church; and many more… I wonder which was the inspiration for these doodles? Or perhaps they all served as inspiration in some part?
In Linda Dolly’s collection of schoolhouse doodles I can see a piece of slate and a piece of chalk, a stack of books, a swing set, a bell, and a building (the school). A well-rounded inclusion of items part of schoolwork and play!
Are you inspired by the many scholastic buildings of Essex’s past? Pick up a pen and pad of paper and start doodling! We’d love to see what you come up with! Contact us to submit your doodles.
