Hopefully you are warm inside on this cold winter’s day. The snow that began yesterday seems to have stopped falling, but the negative temperatures remain. I hope that you do not have to travel to Vermont today because if so you will have to take a longer trip as the Essex-Charlotte ferry has been closed down for the day.
1/3/14 – The Charlotte, VT – Essex, NY ferry crossing is CLOSED due to strong north winds. The Grand Isle, VT – Plattsburgh, NY ferry is running as scheduled. (LCT)
If the weather permits the ferry should be running back on schedule. We’ll keep you updated.

Purchase Winter Tickets on Essex-Charlotte Ferry
The Essex-Charlotte ferry booth has closed at the beginning of this month and will remain closed January through March. The crossing will again be selling tickets aboard the ferry (in the ferry’s upper cabin). However commuter cards will not be accepted at this time.
In order to avoid some of the past problems, we will no longer be accepting Commuter Cards during these months. We encourage all of our regular customers to purchase Commuter Books which give you the same discount as the Commuter Card. The added benefit of using Commuter Books is you will not have to leave your vehicle! (LCT)
Commuter books will be available for purchase (with cash or check) on the ferry. Learn more about purchasing tickets on the ferry and your options.

I think it is important if people want to continue service to contact Betty Little’s office as well as our assembly person NOW…. don’t wait ’til they close the ferry which is critical for many commuters and patients alike…. Pick up the phone and voice your concern. The Aitken boat is not an ICE BOAT and so far, I haven’t seen them bring the other boat down. All the more reason to initiate calls NOW.
I even tried to bring cv-wireless service to the ferry to avoid the use of those paper coupons and they refused… perhaps because they are already making plans to close.
