Ardesia is a contemporary ensemble dedicated to the performance, study and commissioning of new music. The program in Essex, NY, will feature works by Schubert, Berlioz, Mozart, Brahms, Quantz and Arvo Pärt.
The trio of musicians that make up Ardesia’s core have been working together for over three years, extending the range of technique and performance practice, challenging traditional sounds and textures and working directly with composers to educate and refine their interpretations. Ardesia’s passion is to bring the relavance, depth and beauty of new music to the listener. Their performances are a collaboration with the audience, informing through words in pre or post recital conversations and through music in concert as they transcend the academic to reveal the spirit, intensity and emotion today’s classical music.
Ardesia’s 2013 season includes a departure from their norm and a return to the music of earlier masters: Schubert, Schumann, Mozart and Brahms. These are the shoulders on which today’s composers stand and the repertoire which forged the virtuosity of Ardesia’s musicians. Ardesia will perform trios, duos and solos in a joyous romp through some of histories most beautiful and treasured chamber music. In this context, Ardesia will sneak in a few works of living composers, casting their character in a new and different light.
The musicians:
- Ellen Hwangbo, piano
- Marianne Gythfeldt, clarinet
- Ann Ellsworth, horn
