Next year’s Essex County Fair will be the fair’s 165th year of operation! The fair is scheduled to take place July 30 through Aug. 4, 2013.
The fair brings rides and games to entertain the community, but it also allows local farmers, gardeners, and artisans to showcase their work along with even more events. But the fair needs help to make it the best event of the summer that it can be!
Fair Fundraising
The fairgrounds are owned by Essex County, and unlike other fairgrounds that are owned by a county’s local agricultural group(s) our local groups rent the space and so they are not able to do year-round fundraising.
Recently, the majority of fundraising for the fair has primarily come from a car show, but rain has ruined the past two shows, and funds raised for the fair have dropped. The community needs to become involved in a farther reaching net to ensure that the fair becomes better every year instead of stagnating or falling behind because of insufficient funds.
The Essex County Fair Board is brainstorming new ideas to raise more awareness of the fair and to create more fundraising efforts. They want your help to come up with new ideas that will succeed!
“Fundraising ideas consisted of adding more coin jars in stores throughout the county, recruiting students at local schools to complete their mandatory community service for graduation at the fair, and bringing more to the front for passersby’s to see. Overall, the group wanted to bring in something different, unique and [truly] a symbol of the county’s unity.” (Essex County Fair Board Seeks Ideas)
