It is so, so important to vaccinate your pets against rabies. In the last two weeks, six raccoons in Franklin County have tested positive for the virus. Rabies vaccines are FREE through your local rabies clinics. They are also required by law for all cats and dogs. See the attached poster for a schedule of all 2015 rabies clinics in Essex County. Help keep your pets, neighbors, and local wildlife safe and healthy – vaccinate! (North Country SPCA)
Dogs and cats should receive a first rabies vaccination and then need a booster one year later. The booster will last for three years. People who want the three-year booster for their pets should bring the past rabies certificate. Ferrets have to be vaccinated every year.
All pets at the clinics must be controlled by an adult and must be on a leash or in a carrier.
The clinics are free, but a $5 donation is appreciated.
