Essex Farm and the Essex Inn are hosting a farm tour and dinner on Saturday, July 23rd.
There will be an optional work session at the farm from 10am to noon. This session might include a weed brigade, harvest, a building project, a cleanup project, or a combination of all those things. Bring work gloves, sun protection, water, and appropriate clothes and footgear.
From noon to 3pm, guests are welcome to hike and picnic on the farm, or explore the local CATS trails. (See www.champlainareatrails.com for maps and info.) The Essex Inn can provide a simple box lunch for $8. Please call the Inn at 518-963-4400 to reserve one. Other options on Main Street in town include the deli, the ice cream store, and the cafe, or feel free to bring your own bag lunch.
The farm tour will run from 3pm to 5pm. We’ll explore the vegetable fields, the pastures, and the farm infrastructure. Weather permitting, we’ll hitch a team of horses for a working demonstration. Expect to do some walking on this tour!
At 6pm, The Essex Inn’s new chef, Josh Archer, will serve a family-style dinner featuring food from Essex Farm. The historic Inn has just reopened after an extensive renovation. See www.essexinnessex.com. Kristin Kimball will lead a dinner discussion about local food and farming, and Chef Josh will join us if he can get out of the kitchen. Pricing and menu for the dinner will be announced soon. Please call the Inn to reserve your place for dinner.
The work session and tour are free for Essex Farm members, $25 per person for non-members. All proceeds will be used to fund subsidized shares for Essex Farm’s low-income members. RSVP for the tour at essexfarm@gmail.com, or by phone at 518-963-4613.
