
The Essex Fire Department (EFD) responded to a total of 114 calls for service in the first quarter of fiscal year 2016 (January 1, 2016 through March 31, 2016). This includes responses in the Town of Essex, and mutual aid to neighboring towns.
- Emergency Medical Service (EMS) – 97
- Fire – 12
- Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) – 2
- Good Intent – 1
- False Alarm – 2
EMS – Basic and Advanced life support to the sick and injured.
Fire – Structural, wildland, rubbish, vehicle fire suppression, station standby
MVA – Motor vehicle accidents requiring an interventional response
Good Intent and False Alarm – Calls for service that may be a true threat of fire, gas or other emergency hazard are actually found to be something else after Firefighters investigate the situation. These calls are coded as Good Intent calls. As well, many fire alarm activations are from causes other than fire or emergency hazard. These situations are categorized as False Alarm calls.
The Essex Fire Department contributed a total of 412 emergency personnel hours in the first quarter of 2016 to the Essex community and neighboring fire districts. This hourly total does not include: drills, meetings, or training.
On January 10th 2016, the Essex Fire Department had a historical first fire call where 3 generations of Essex Firefighters responded on the same apparatus.
On February 26th 2016, the Essex Rescue Squad officially merged with the Willsboro Rescue Squad to become Willsboro Essex EMS. Data collection will continue for EMS calls on this quarterly report, if Essex Fire Department members respond.
