
Review the schedule of activities planned for Independence Day in Essex, NY and plan your holiday weekend!
The fireworks will take place on Sunday, July 3, beginning about 9:30 pm off Bluff Point (a point at the southeast portion of Essex hamlet; will be visible over the lake). Fireworks are sponsored by the Essex Fire Department. If you want to help fund the fireworks learn more here.
All other activities including the parade will take place on Monday, July 4th.
The annual 6.5K Firecracker Run is scheduled for July 4th at 8:00 am beginning at NEW Health. Entry fee is $10. Kids Run afterwards, free. This year the event will benefit the High Peaks Hospice Rainbows for All Children program. Participate and run or walk to support kids who have experienced a significant life loss. A Patriotic hymn sing will occur at St. John’s Church at 10:00 a.m.
From 10:00 a.m. until after parade, Methodist Church women will be selling strawberry shortcake with whipped cream on church lawn.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m. Penelope the Clown will be entertaining near the blinker light with face-painting and balloon creatures.
At 11:00 a.m. the Parade steps off onto Route 22 from Blockhouse Road into hamlet of Essex. The parade features the Plattsburgh Police Pipes and Drum Band.
Immediately following the parade the Durant family-oriented games will be held on Beggs Point and the Essex Fire Department will be serving sausages, hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages on Beggs Point.
At 2:00 p.m. the Town Hall will host the almost annual spelling bee with two categories of competition: 1- high school through adults from the eighth grade up and 2 – children up through and including seventh grade.
