Essex Library Announces New Assistant and Winter Hours

We will be switching to winter hours on October 1 [today!], and you will also notice another change about half of the time that you come to the library during the winter months. We have hired Julie Steeves as Library Assistant, and she will be here when I am not during the winter months (we each plan to work two weeks a month from October thru April).

Many of you know Julie — she is one of the Library Assistants at the Paine Memorial Library in Willsboro and has volunteered in our library over the last two years. Julie has a deep understanding of our library automation software and lots of experience providing library services.

Having an assistant will help by providing a second staff member with deep knowledge of our automation software, and backup is important! Also, as many of you know, I continue to divide my time between Schenectady and Essex, and it will be very nice to make fewer trips back-and-forth during the winter!

Please be assured that my commitment to this library runs deep and I will continue to work closely with Julie and the Board to provide the best possible library services for our town. I also plan to work every week during the summer months.

Essex Library Winter Hours

So — here are the winter hours. Julie’s first two weeks begin on Oct 10; my two weeks begin on Oct 24. We plan to alternate in a similar way throughout the winter.

Monday: 1:00 to 4:00
Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday: Closed
Thursday: 1:00 to 6:00
Friday: Noon to 5:00
Saturday: 10:00 to 5:00
Sunday: Closed

About Tom Mangano

Tom became the director of the Belden Noble Memorial Library in Essex after a 33-year career as technical editor at GE in Schenectady. In 2009, Tom received a master's degree in information science from the University at Albany. He became library director in Essex in 2011. Tom and his wife MaryAnne divide their time between Essex and Schenectady.
