A week ago I posted “Visions of Summer in Essex 2015” which showcased a selection of recent photographs taken and shared by the public.
The summer snapshots were but a minute sampling of the steady stream of enchanting images that Essex inspired so far this year, and there were many others that I could (and probably should) have included. But time was fleeting, so I settled for a few representative images. Here’s how I explained my vision at the time.
So many magical memories being made every hour, every day, and yet the summer days go blurring past… I’ve gathered a few random but wonderful glimpses of summer in Essex from the ever-blurring-never-sleeping social media platforms that so many use to document their favorite moments. Summer Snapshots by Reinhardt & Lynch
Kathy Reinhardt and John Lynch were inspired to share a couple of their own local summer snapshots. In addition to that Technicolor dazzler of Essex’s waterfront above John Lynch also shared this similar and yet subtly dissimilar view (wider, moodier, and more cinematic) of the familiar the Essex ferry dock, Old Dock Restaurant, Rosslyn boathouse and more.

Like John Lynch (and many of us who associate summer in Essex with breathtaking views of/near Lake Champlain), Kathy Reinhardt also sent us a photograph of Lake Champlain. But it captures a totally different view from the photographs above. Can you identify what you see in the photograph below? Try to figure it out before continuing reading below.

Did you recognize the view? It’s a little tricky if you are mostly familiar with Lake Champlain views and summer snapshots in the vicinity of Essex. I’ll let Kathy Reinhardt describe what you’re seeing.
Here’s a picture from the water looking back toward the Westport shoreline. [It was] taken during the 8/10/2014 two-hour guided tour hosted by Elizabeth Lee from Westport up to Split Rock and back. ~ Kathy Reinhardt
Now do you recognize it? If not, here’s a nearby (and probably more familiar) vista for Essex residents and visitors. Kathy Reinhardt captured this summer snapshot in early in the morning back in July 2013. The view is overlooking Essex agricultural fields in the foreground, Whallonsburgh foothills cloaked in wisps of fog in the middle ground, and the pastel-soft, but towering Adirondack Mountains in the background.

Summer Snapshots by Martini & Hislop
No sooner did I decide on those handsome photos above but I stumbled across a couple more outstanding summer snapshots appeared in my Facebook data stream.
Here’s another breathtaking view across Lake Champlain taken by Susan Martini.

David Hislop’s fairy tale ferry dock photo of a rainbow seems too perfect to be real. Except that this summer of ample rain and intermittent sunshine has convinced us all that rainbows are considerably more common in Essex than Champy sightings…

Essex Summer Snapshots on Instagram
Before wrapping up, let’s take a look at a couple of fun Essex photos that floated past recently on the Instagram data stream…
And this moody kitchen entrance view of the Old Dock Restaurant…

With your permission I would like to use this photo as a guide for a water painting of scenes from Essex. ( as a 20 year resident I have many fond memories).
