Essex Theatre Company, community theatre in Essex, NY, will soon be holding auditions for Joe DiPietro’s family comedy Over the River and Through the Woods. This play is a delightful family comedy about two sets of Italian-American grandparents from New Jersey who don’t want their grandson to move to Seattle.
Auditions will take place on Friday, April 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and Saturday, April 5, from 4 to 6 pm at the Willsborough Visitors Center on Main Street (next to the Willsboro Diner) in Willsboro, NY.
The cast consists of 3 men and 3 women:
- Nick Cristano in his 30s;
- Frank Gianelli, Nick’s maternal grandfather, 80 years old;
- Aida Gianelli, Nick’s paternal grandmother, in her 70s;
- Nunzio Cristano, Nick’s paternal grandfather, in his 70s;
- Emma Cristoano, Nick’s paternal grandmather, in her 70s;
- Caitlin O’Hare, attractive and charming, in her late 20s.
People who try out don’t have to be exactly the ages stated here; we can adjust aging with theatre techniques. All are welcome. Just show up and read from the script provided.
Rehearsals will begin at the end of May. Productions will take place this summer at the Masonic Lodge in Essex, NY, on July 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 7 pm and July 13 & 20 at 2 pm.
