On Friday, October 2, the Whallonsburg Grange Hall will present a free concert by the Daniel Freedman Trio. The Trio brings together versatile drummer Daniel Freedman, top Chilean bassist Pablo Menares, and pianist Jason Lindner, who has been described by Chick Corea as “a musical universe.” The three will meld their unique styles and perspectives into a memorable evening of jazz.
Freedman grew up in New York City in a musical family, and studied with master drummers Max Roach, Billy Higgins, and Vernel Fournier. He later took his studies abroad, visiting West Africa, Cuba, and the Middle East to deepen his rhythmic perspective with authentic practitioners of ancient traditions. His is currently touring with the band of award-winning singer Angelique Kidjo, and has recorded with many artists including Sting, Youssou N’Dour, Dianne Reeves, Wynton Marsalis, and Meshell Ndegeocello.
The concert begins at 7:30 pm, and is free of charge with the support of the Essex County Arts Council and the New York State Council on the Arts. Donations will be accepted at the door.
The Grange is located at 1610 NYS Route 22 in Whallonsburg, New York, 5 miles south of the Essex ferry dock. For more information visit www.thegrangehall.info or call 518-963-4170.
This performance is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.
