Inflatable Jesus

Has lost some of his plumpness now
Out on the door stoop
The Holy family has
dirty snow on their plastic garments

The glowing hearts of the season long gone
Fathers are going back to their offices, pale-faced
After buying and buying and drinking
and smoking and staying up too late

Even the magi have lost their magic
And it’s not even Epiphany
Their flaccid bodies swaying
in the icy wind coming in from Lake Champlain
The grey clouds heavy with January snow
and disappointment
