The Adirondack Art Association will host Essex author Jeff Moredock for a book reading and signing on Sunday, August 27th at 3:00PM. Jeff will read selections from Poems from Essex & Elsewhere, a collection composed over four decades that includes a dozen playful portraits of life in our favorite small village in upstate New York.
In an age in which we are drowning in excessive verbiage, poetry is the perfect life line. I craft poems in my head, then pour them onto paper through a filter and a pen.
— Jeff Moredock
In addition to the locally inspired verse, Poems from Essex & Elsewhere, includes twenty-five additional poems (and three song lyrics) charting the ironies and poignancies of other lands that Jeff has called home.

In describing his writing, Jeff explains that he adopted the mantra “less is more” — a phrase originating in the 1855 Robert Browning poem “Andrea del Sarto” (also called “The Faultless Painter”) and adopted by Mies van der Rohe, minimalist designer and architect, in 1947 — after discovering the poetry of Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Richard Brautigan in the late ‘60s.
Jeff’s accessible and often lighthearted poetic style will put his audience at ease, and a peppering of familiar landmarks, characters, and themes will entertain anyone with a soft spot for Essex, New York.
Copies of Poems from Essex & Elsewhere will be available for sale before and after the reading, and the Jeff will autograph and personalize copies upon request. The event is free and open to the public.
About Jeff Moredock

McClain Jeffrey Moredock has worked as a farmhand, a lifeguard, a surveyor, a minister, a chaplain, a teacher, a coach, a head of school, and a chief operating officer. And, like many of his contemporaries, he retired at 65 and immediately began consulting. Five years later, weary of air travel and motel beds, he retired for good.
Poems from Essex & Elsewhere was published in 2016, and the print edition is available for sale at the Adirondack Art Association. Both the print edition and ebook are available online at Amazon.com. Jeff’s second book, Nine Holes, Nine Lives: The Front Nine, a collection of short stories themed around golf, is currently available as an ebook on Amazon.com.
Both works were published by Essex Editions.
