It’s officially lawn concert time at the Elizabethtown Social Center and we have a wonderful line up of fantastic performances this July. Since 2015, our FREE lawn concerts have been an annual tradition in Elizabethtown on Tuesdays in July. The concerts are a great way to enjoy a night out with the kids. Special performances for kids start at 6pm followed by bands for grown-ups at 7pm.
We have a selection of performances this summer you don’t want to miss from traditional stories mixed with humor & music, classical music, magic show, jazz, Shakespeare, Children’s Opera, and Contra Dancing.
Tuesday, July 7th – We welcome the multiple award-winning duo, The Storycrafters.
Barry Marshall and Jeri Burns, weave humor and music into traditional stories for youth. They perform internationally in schools, libraries and other venues. At 7pm, talented students from Meadowmount School of Music bring high-level classical music to the Social Center. Meadowmount’s concert will be held indoors, with A/C.
Tuesday, July 14th – Alyx Hilshey of Alyx Magic Entertainment
A riveting magic show for all ages, honed over many years at events such as TED Conferences and Penn and Teller. Says one event manager: “In 15 years of events, Alyx brought by far the most positive feedback we’ve ever received!” At 7pm, treat yourself to soulful, timeless jazz from Thistle Tulla Carson, featuring jazz guitarist Andy Tompkins. Carson’s versatile voice runs the gamut from powerful to sweet to sultry. There will be CD Sales to benefit sober active recovery of the Adirondacks.
Friday, July 24th – Shakespeare in the Courtyard “As You Like It”
Adirondack Regional Theatre Production puts on a fabulous show of love, laughter and mistaken identities await in this Shakespeare comedy, where the main character, Rosalind disguises herself as a man and tests her suitor Orlando’s devotion. The Adirondack Regional Theater, a beloved regional summer staple throughout the North Country, is back at the Social Center by popular demand after last year’s enthusiastically received performance. There is no children’s performance; the play will start at 6pm.
Tuesday, July 28th – The Seagle Festival Children’s Opera is a perpetual favorite at our lawn concerts – for both children and adults.
This year, the Adirondack-based theater will perform its unique take on the classical fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood”. At 7pm, join us for a spirited Contra Dance with the Adirondack 2-Step band, featuring caller Lausanne Allen. If you’re not up for dancing, just bring your lawn chair and simply enjoy a concert of Old-Time, Americana, and Celtic tunes with beautiful harmonies.
Think of us when you want to get out, meet people, and enjoy the arts without breaking the bank. It’s easy to forget how great it is to be part of a “village” – to see old friends and make new ones.
We extend a HUGE thank you to the J.M. McDonald Foundation, NYSCA, Essex County Arts Council, and the Town of Elizabethtown for their grants, which make our lawn concerts possible!
Our concerts are held outside in our courtyard, weather permitting. Please bring blankets & lawn chairs to enjoy. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will be inside with A/C.
We hope to see you at the Center for our On the Lawn Concert series!
