Lakeside School at Black Kettle Farm offers birth –2nd grade education based on the Waldorf philosophy on a working farm in Essex, NY.
Fall Newsletter: Courage

Greetings Friends of Lakeside,
It has been a bustling fall here at Lakeside School. With the addition of a Sprouts, a full day care, and a 2nd grade, as well as children here until 5pm, we are bursting with enriching programs in every corner of the farmhouse, gardens and forests at Black Kettle Farm.
This Fall Newsletter comes to you with the theme of Courage. We will post engaging articles from each of the teachers and the board president centering around this theme through the next few weeks on Essex on Lake Champlain blog. From finding the courage to feed the chickens out of your hand, to the courage to climb up the tree-house and make new friends, to the courage to take the risk of starting this school initiative.
The news these days require us as adults to develop capacities of courage to meet the current social, environmental, political, and educational climates of this day and age. With this courage coupled with truthfulness, we engage and find ways forward to create positive future for this world and in the lives of the children. Each day at Lakeside the children must also develop courage to meet their work, whether it’s a two year old dressing and undressing all by himself, or a kindergartener finding courage to make new friends or an elementary student learning to tie his shoes and how to write.
In this season of celebration, I wish you are able to meet the world with courage and truthfulness. The rest will take care of itself in time.
From all of us at Lakeside, Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hanukkah.
Warm wishes,
Kathleen Morse
School Administrator
