The fourth of July is just the beginning of the celebration in Westport on Lake Champlain!
The annual Westport Independence Weekend, featuring this year’s theme of “Let’s Get Together,” spans from Friday, July 5 through Sunday July 7, and will be is packed full of activities, including food, music, arts & crafts, a fun run, theatre, festive parade and of course, fireworks!
The weekend begins on Friday July 5th with the Arts & Crafts Festival at Essex County Fairgrounds from 10am-4pm and the “First View Party” at the Westport Library Association from 6-8pm and on-campus concert at Meadowmount School of Music at 7:30pm.
Saturday July 6th features events all day, including the annual Westport Library Association book sale at 9am, a 5k fun run at 9:30am, food vendor specials beginning at 11am, vendors, strawberry shortcake and basket raffle at the Westport Heritage House beginning at noon, the parade down Main Street at 4pm, the annual Westport Volunteer Firemen’s Annual Pig Roast, complete with free ice cream courtesy of the Christopher Emmet Hallowell Foundation at 5pm in Lee Park, and fireworks over Lake Champlain at dusk.
The popular parade down Main Street will be held on Saturday July 6 at 4pm. The friendly competition for trophies includes most patriotic, best theme, oldest car, oldest tractor, best not for profit, most participants and of course, best in show. Creative entries aligned with the “Let’s Get Together!” theme are welcome, and participants are invited to line up at 3:30pm at the Essex County Fair Grounds.
Sunday events include the Westport Library Association book sale from 9am-4pm, a 5pm performance of THE WORLD GOES ‘ROUND at the Depot Theatre, and an on-campus concert at Meadowmount School of Music at 7:30pm.
