Donor Challenge during Giving Tuesday Unlocks Large Donation for Lake Placid Food Pantry
For the last five years, as part of their annual Giving Tuesday campaign, North Country School and Camp Treetops have challenged donors with a special incentive: for each donation received during the day, the school and camp will donate one dozen eggs to a local food pantry. This year, 137 donors participated, and on December 23rd, students and staff from NCS and Treetops dropped off the first delivery of 43 dozen eggs.
Egg donations will continue through the winter and spring until the 137-dozen pledge is fulfilled.
“Everyone is so appreciative of the eggs,” said Linda Young, director of the Lake Placid Ecumenical Food Pantry. “It assures protein is available for a lot of people. We’re so thankful to get them.”
Several NCS students helped deliver the eggs to the pantry, providing a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the pantry’s vital role in the local community.
“I liked learning how special it is for the food pantry to receive eggs because they are fresh and many of the normal items are canned goods,” said Eleanor, a seventh grader at NCS.
NCS also donates to other community organizations, including Craigarden’s Free Food Fridge in Elizabethtown. One student noted that the opportunity to share NCS and Camp Treetops’ bounty helps create a special connection between the school and the local community.
“It felt good to donate to people who need the eggs and might not have them,” said Knox, a fourth grader at NCS.
