The Grange is hosting a public discussion on the oil trains in the Champlain Valley on Tuesday, August 19 at 7:00 pm.
Brian Mann, reporter for North Country Public Radio and National Public Radio is the featured speaker. Brian has covered the oil industry for 25 years, from the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska in 1989 to the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf. Most recently, he has written and reported on the oil trains in the North Country and on the oil train explosion and its aftermath in Lac-Megantic, Quebec. Brian lives in Saranac Lake and Westport.
Also speaking are Rachelle Armstrong, Plattsburgh City Councilor, and Tom Scozzafava, Moriah Town Supervisor.
We are presenting this as a discussion so people feel comfortable voicing different opinions and issues. That will be true of the speakers as well as the audience. This is a significant question in and for our community.
Whallonsburg Grange Hall is located at 1610 NYS Route 22 (at Whallons Bay Rd.); 5 miles south of the Essex Ferry dock.
