Jeremiah McLane & Friends:
A New England Trad Celebration
Sunday, June 7
A Glorious Garden Tea Party Fundraiser and Outdoor Concert
Start time 1:30, Concert at 3:00 p.m.
or
Saturday, June 6 at 7:00 p.m. (concert only)
On June 7th Piano by Nature is having a super special fundraiser with all of the ‘fun’ you might expect from our past events—and more. This year we are bringing back acclaimed Vermont pianist/accordionist Jeremiah McLane in a thrilling new setting—namely the outside porch of the Hand House! And he will be joined by his equally-distinguished musical partners Timothy Cummings on pipes and whistles, and McKinley James on cello.
Amidst the chirping birds and swaying trees they will present a joyful exploration of yearning ballads, ancient sailor songs, and buoyant and lighthearted folk dances on the gorgeous Hand House lawn surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty. This in itself would be a wonderful experience, and in addition PBN will be adding a giant tent with mouth-watering Garden-Party fare from Plattsburgh’s Fork and Knife Catering, specially-mixed non-alcoholic cocktails (and tea, of course) so you can bring the whole family, stunning flower arrangements by Willsboro’s Sarah White to be raffled off, prizes for best hats, special games for children, and to top things off, a gorgeous and delicious accordion-shaped cake from Sassy Cakes by Sue in Delmar, NY. This is a one-time PBN event not to be missed, so make your reservations today for the kick-off party of the summer!
What is “Trad Music”?
New England Traditional (Trad) music is a regional folk style blending British Isles, Irish, Scottish, French Canadian, and Acadian influences with local maritime, lumber camp, and industrial traditions. It’s defined by high-energy fiddle tunes for contra dancing, shape-note singing, sea shanties, and ballads, representing a living, community-based tradition.
What to Expect at the Concert
Jeremiah McLane (accordion and piano) joined by Timothy Cummings (pipes and whistles) and McKinley James (cello) will present a performance of acoustic music that explores musical connections across the region of Caledonian Orogeny, an area of 200 million years of major geologic mountain-building spanning Appalachia, New England, Québec and the Canadian Maritimes, Greenland, Ireland, Scotland, England, and even Denmark and Norway. Lively, adventurous, and deeply expressive, this program invites audiences into an immersive musical journey where history, artistry, and joyful live performance come vividly to life!
Sunday, June 7th Garden Tea Party Fundraiser
The Garden Party will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the music will start at 3 p.m. Bring your own comfy chairs and picnic blankets to sit and enjoy the concert under the tent and we will provide the rest.
