On Thursday, August 15 at 7:00 p.m., Betsy Tisdale will present a program on our new Amish neighbors at the Belden Noble Memorial Library.
The Swartzentruber group of Amish are the most conservative. Some started moving into St. Lawrence County from eastern Ohio in 1974. Now some are moving into Essex County, working hard to reclaim abandoned farmland.
For 30 years, Betsy tried to help some Amish in St. Lawrence County by developing a small custom quilt business and by selling furniture and crafts. Betsy found out that the Amish also helped her in surprising, unexpected ways.
The event is free and open to the public; donations to the library are always welcome.
I miss this place & my old friends
