The Smith House Health Center in Willsboro, NY, is the fourth facility to come under the control of the Elizabethtown Community Hospital (ECH). Other facilities are located in Elizabethtown, Wilmington, and Westport.
“It is a huge difference for people who live here to come to the Smith House instead of heading to Elizabethtown,” Jane Hooper, director of community relations for ECH said. “We can offer services here that are supported through the primary care facility. Smith House patients have always been ECH patients and there has always been a relationship there, now it is a more structured one.” (Denpubs)
Physical therapy is a new program that is now successfully being offered to Willsboro residents. Not having to take a long car ride to go to physical therapy sessions is a great ease on those who experience pain while travelling. Other new programs may be in the works as the staff looks to see what they can offer the community.
The merger with ECH and all of it’s associated facilities adds many resources to this local health center because it makes available all the different aspects of each and gives an ease of communication between each facility when patients must visit between them.
“We have the advantage now of having all of the hospitals resources at our disposal,” [Primary Care Clinics Manager Robin] Dunning said. “All of the health centers and the hospital are linked by telemedicine units so you can be seen at any of the sites and the doctors will have immediate access to your charts.” (Denpubs)
