Soundwaves is pleased to present the Grammy Nominated Manuel Valera & Samuel Torres in a Duo Concert on July 24th as part of the Westport Community Concert Series at Ballard Park.
When the imposing talents of two of today’s most versatile Latin jazz artists meld with the organic richness of some of the world’s greatest cultural traditions, the results are guaranteed to be as fresh and virtuosic as they are revealing and magical. That’s what transpires on Samuel Torres and Manuel Valera Duet, an intimate setting of Piano and Latin Percussion.
Based in New York City, Grammy nominated pianist and composer Manuel Valera was born and raised in Havana, Cuba has become well known in the NYC modern jazz scene, garnering national reviews and lending his talents as a pianist and composer to such notable artist as Paquito D’Rivera, Brian Lynch, Dafnis Prieto, Lenny White and Jeff “Tain” Watts.
Samuel Torres from Bogota- Colombia transcends the conventional definition of a Percussionist. He’s a fully developed musician in the true meaning of the word — an artist who passionately follows his intuitions, ever broadening his horizons while further honing his wide-ranging, world class skills.
The 2014 summer series continues at 7:30 every Thursday night through August 28th on the hillside amphitheater overlooking Lake Champlain, known as the Ballard Park Performance Pavilion. Bring a blanket/lawn chairs and a picnic. The rain site is across Main Street/Route 22 in the acoustically amazing historic chapel of the Westport Heritage House.
