Artists living in, visiting, or working in the Champlain Valley are invited to enter up to three works of art in the 10th Annual Spirit of Place Art Exhibition taking place at the Westport Heritage House from July 1 to September 4, 2017. The art exhibit is open to the public during Westport Heritage House Welcome Center hours. (Closed Tuesdays. Open 10 am to 3 pm, Wednesday–Saturday. Sunday 1 to 3 pm.)
A Silent Auction of the individual pieces of art begins July 1 to July 27, when it concludes with a Meet the Artists Reception, from 5 to 7 pm. Known for diversity of media and a spread of artists’ ages – from youth to octogenarians, viewers can expect to find painting, print-making, pottery, photography, multi-media, collage, weaving, hooked-rug tapestry, and sculpture. Work not sold by Silent Auction will continue on display until September 4 and may be sold at the value/price listed on the object’s entry form. Seventy percent (70%) of the sale is paid to the artist; the remainder benefits Westport Heritage House.
In addition to the Exhibition, several area artists will open their studios to visitors on the following Sundays: July 23, August 20, and September 17, 10 am to 4 pm, providing an opportunity to converse directly with artists about their creations and to see their workspace. Maps will be available at Westport Heritage House and on line.
To participate, please find the entry form and more information at westportheritagehouse.com, or call Meredith at 518-962-4590 or Caroline at 518-962-8373.
“The Meet the Artist Reception feels like an artist’s homecoming! A chance to show off what you’ve been working on, to see what other artists have been doing, and to talk with everyone about art! It’s an inspiring experience!” says Dee Carroll, looking forward to this summer’s event!
