“We are very excited to offer 6th grade to the community, creating a full middle school experience for our students and families,” says Dexter Mahaffey, new Head of School at Vermont Commons School in an announcement today. “While this makes for a seamless grade-level transition into Vermont Commons School for students completing their elementary years, it more importantly allows us to provide our hallmark collaborative student-teacher dynamic, guaranteed by our small class sizes. Our unique hands-on, field-based approach to education is the ideal learning environment for 6th graders, and we are delighted to begin taking applications immediately for the 2014-15 school year.”
Two informal informational receptions about Vermont Commons School and its programs will be held in coming weeks: the first on Thursday, October 9 at 4:30 pm at the Bristol Bakery and Café in Hinesburg and the second at the Shelburne home of a current Vermont Commons School family on Thursday, October 23rd at 5 pm (please rsvp for directions).
A formal Open House to learn about the school in greater depth and meet faculty, students, and families will be held Sunday, November 2nd at 1 pm at Vermont Commons School.
