Every week we share a different image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia. The last image we shared is shown above, although we shared without its caption.
Do you recognize any landmarks in the scene featured on this vintage postcard? Where do you think this is? When do you think it dates to?
No one in the community identified the location. However, if we look at the full image with the captions they tell us where we are and about the view that is shown. The caption at the top reads: “Saranac River and Whiteface Mt.” and the one at the bottom reads: “From Bloomingdale Road, Adirondacks.”
Did you recognize Whiteface? See anything else that should be pointed out?
I’m not sure when this postcard dates to. What do you think?
Below you can see the back side of the postcard:

The publisher of the postcard was Santway Photo Craft Company Inc. of Star Lake, NY. The cost of postage is only 1 cent in the US and 2 cents for foreign postage.

Excellent! I drive by this view everyday. It’s off of Route 3, between Saranac Lake and my house in Bloomingdale. Happy summer!
Ah-ha! Insiders scoop. 🙂 How about snapping a modern photo one of these days for us to add to this post?
