Every Monday we share an image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia.
Do you recognize this aerial view? Where is it? (Hint: It’s not Essex. Think across the lake….And there is a textual clue as to the location in the photo.) Do you know it? Have any thoughts to share? Been here before?
The comments from the community were spot on:
Carol DesFosses Bechta: Basin Harbor?
Dorinda Uhl: Basin harbor?
Carole Bouchard: Basin Harbor!
They are all correct! This is Basin Harbor in Vermont. Do you see the name on the roof of the building in the center of the photo? (You can click on it to enlarge for a closer look!)

The back of the postcard gives a description of Basin Harbor and the Basin Harbor Club located there.
Basin Harbor Club on the eastern shores of Lake Champlain. 6 miles west of Vergennes, VT. Beautiful 18 hole golf course. All sports, tennis, water-skiing, lake cruises, boating, fishing, ring and trail riding. Famous for fine food. Looking westward from Basin Harbor over Lake Champlain the lofty Adirondack Mts. rise up in ranges, one behind the other, in a majestic panorama.
The back side of the postcard also tells us the photographer/creator was Frank L. Forward.
Do you have thoughts to share, if so, then please leave a comment! When do you think the photo was taken? Notice anything that’s changed? Have you been to Basin Harbor or the club before?
