Every Monday we share an image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia.
What do you recognize in this old postcard image? Do you know the location? What has changed? When do you think this photo was taken?
Here’s what the community already had to say:
Dianne Lansing: Shipyard Lane
Susan Martini: This is Orchard Lane. The first house is ours, Number 5. The front porch is long gone, but the the pattern for the flashing for its roofline can still be seen on our house.
Steve Mckenna: Yep, Orchard St. many great years in that 1835 brick house.
Do you agree? Anything else you want to point out?
Take a look at the back side of the post card below. The left side tells us it was made for W.C. Alexander of Essex, NY — likely of Alexander’s News Room that used to exist in Essex. Can anyone tell us more about that business?
