Last Monday, we shared the vintage photo above on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invited our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia. Do you recognize this site on the Essex, NY waterfront? Paint it red and you’ll realize that it’s the Old Dock House Restaurant!
I do not ever remember the Old Dock being anything other than red. How about you? Though unfortunately this means I have no idea when the photo may have been taken. It doesn’t seem that old, but perhaps was taken before my time or when I was very young?
I’m guessing the photo was taken perhaps in the 80’s? What do you think? I’m basing my guess on the quality of the color photo and what I can make out of the vehicles in the parking lot. Of course I’m not an expert of car makes and models, but maybe you are–or you may even recognize the vehicles and know who their owners were?! Or maybe the boats floating on Lake Champlain?
Take a look at the photo and try to determine the year. Or better yet perhaps you remember when the Old Dock wasn’t red? Leave a message in the comments!
Check out the commentary we have already received from the community below:
Debi Sherman: Wishful thinking.
Dianne Lansing: Who says “Old”?????
Tom Stransky: How was the food at the old dock back then?
Dianne Lansing: Cheaper!
