Frequently we share a different historical or vintage image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia.
Take a look at the most recent we shared above! When do you think this vintage photo dates? Recognize any landmarks? What can you tell us about the boats?
The caption reads: “Summer Pleasures on Lake Champlain.” The photo depicts a sailboat in the background and a small steam boat in the foreground on the lake.
The boat in the foreground does look like the Kestrel. What do you think? Here are some other vintage images we’ve shared of the Kestrel you can look at to compare: Kestrel archives. This boat was often docked in Essex during its time.
This postcard was mailed and the back side shows us it was sent on Aug. 11, 1911, from Port Kent, NY. Likely the photo used on the front was taken that year or shortly in the years before.
