Have you ever seen this old postcard before? Do you recognize the location? If not, the title tells us that it’s: “The Crater Club, Essex-on-Lake Champlain.” Have you ever been there? What can you tell us about it? Does it bring up any memories for you?
Here’s what the community has already had to say:
Dudley Underdahl Duel: This is where I grew up!
Helen Jennings: The Crater Club clubhouse
Katie Withey: I have this postcard.
When do you think the photo was taken? We don’t know exactly, but the back of the postcard is stamped July 1907, which dates the creation of that photo and postcard to that year or earlier.
The front of the postcard tells us the who: it was published by W.H. Cruikshank whose name has come up before regarding the postcard with the photo of the old stump bridge at Whallons Bay. Cruikshank must have published several Essex postcards. Let’s see if his name will come up in the future on another vintage trivia challenge…
The writing on the front of the postcard appears to read: “This is the club. What do you think of it? Love it all. Harriet.”
