Frequently we share a different historic image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia.
Last time we shared the image above. When do you think it dates to? Do you recognize the location? What about the boat floating on the lake?
This old postcard is titled: “Whallons Bay and Split Rock Mountain, Essex, NY.” So we know the general location along that stretch of Whallons Bay in Essex.
Here are some comments from the community:
Gary Berg: 1910 ish?? View from Thompson’s Point??
Matt C. Morian: The late 1950’s . . . possibly the Crater Club’s dock⁉️😁
Maris Noble: It was not that long ago!! It looks like the Cape Cods we race at Split Rock Yacht Club-
Mary S Houston: It might be possible to find the rock on the shore and place it!
Dudley Underdahl Duel: 30’s Cape Cod Knockabout! Split Rock Yacht Club!
You can take a look at the back side of the postcard below, however, it was never sent so there is no postage date on it or any other text to help narrow down the date of the postcard photograph.
