Frequently we share a different historic image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia.
Do you recognize anything in this sketch? There is no date on it, but it’s likely pretty old. It’s titled, “Ruins of Fort Ticonderoga”, however, I’m not sure where the ruins are. Maybe the big rocks in the foreground? The building in the background to the right doesn’t look like what Fort Ticonderoga looks like today at first glance…or maybe it is. It just looks so different without the star-formation walls around it. What are your thoughts?
Here is what the community had to say:
Gary Berg: Fort TI , Lake Champlain is a treasure of American History!!
Judi Root: Wonder if my ancestors would recognize this …they were living there until 1858, I think.
You can visit www.fortticonderoga.org to learn more about the historic fort, and even plan a visit!
