The Wadhams Free Library presents “New York State of Health: The Official Health Plan Marketplace,” a presentation by Jill Rock, Education & Outreach Specialist from Adirondack Health Institute. This event will take place on Wednesday, November 20th at 7:30pm.
About New York State of Health
Under the Affordable Care Act (also known as “Obamacare”) States were to set up marketplaces, or exchanges, to allow consumers to compare a range of health plans online that meet the standards of the law, apply for subsidies and pick the best policy for their needs. Open enrollment began on October 1st and lasts through March. If you’re uninsured and want coverage to start on January 1st you must sign up by December 15th, so this will be a timely presentation for those wishing to better understand how to apply for insurance through the exchange.
In all the coverage of the massive problems with the federal exchange website, the fact that state exchanges are working has been lost. Jill Rock notes that “New York’s website is working.” NY State of Health is a the official Health Plan Marketplace. Individuals, families, and small businesses can use it to buy health insurance. It’s also the only place you can receive financial assistance based on your income. The premium you pay for health plans purchased through the Marketplace may be further reduced if your household income is below 400 percent of the federal poverty level ($45,960 for individuals and $94,200 for a family of four).
Jill Rock of Adirondack Health Institute has given a number of presentations on the NY exchange throughout the county. One of AHI’s programs is the In-Person Assistor/Navigator (IPA/N) program which is focused on enrolling New Yorker’s via The New York State of Health Marketplace. (Wadhams Free Library)
