About the Westport Heritage House
A place that links Westport to the history, arts, and culture of the region
A center that connects multiple generations and interests to foster a dynamic community
A house to welcome visitors to Westport where they can discover and experience its spirit of place (Westport Heritage House)

The history of the heritage House is an interesting one. It was first built as a church at the top of the Washington Street hill (now Stevenson Road) in 1828, and then in 1839 it was moved it its present location on Main Street. However, in 1876, the great Westport fire destroyed many buildings in the town, including the church. The church was rebuilt in Gothic Revival style in 1877, and was later expanded with another hall to give it its present structure.
The Heritage House was established in the 21st century, when Westport decided that it needed a visitor center to showcase the history of the town and to tell visitors what there is to see and do within the local community. Learn more about its history here.
Our Westport Heritage House goals are to maintain our visitor center with the help of our Ambassadors telling our history and stories, further develop the building and grounds, market the building for community and regional use, financial stability and fundraising. (Westport Heritage House)
